MARTYN STARNES: Argyle fans who ruined Millwall clash will be identified and banned

I'D LIKE to open this column by thanking our loyal fans for their support at the last two games in the FA Cup on Saturday and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday night.

Our attendance against Carlisle was the fourth highest out of the 40 first round matches and the Millwall game drew the highest audience of all the area quarter finals.

It's really important we maintain and increase our attendances as we try to progress this club to the next level and we're grateful to everyone who turned out to watch our latest cup exploits.

We didn't play particularly well against Carlisle and the Cumbrians probably deserved their win with the way they defended after going in front.

The lads produced a much better performance against Millwall with Jake Jervis and Graham Carey scoring some cracking goals but defensive errors were clinically punished and we lost a very entertaining match.

Tuesday night's entertainment was sadly marred by some unpleasant scenes at the end of the game.

The type of behaviour displayed by a small number of individuals who threw punches at stewards and encroached on to the pitch will not be tolerated.

Miscreants will be identified and banned from Home Park.

Argyle is a family and community-oriented club and supporters are entitled to feel safe and secure when they attend our matches and we will do everything we can to ensure this is the case.

Naturally, we are all disappointed the results in the two cup games didn't go our way.

We all dream of a potential trip to Wembley for the JPT final and pulling one of the big Premier League clubs in the third round of the FA Cup because it helps to create excitement and interest in the club.

However, it was not to be this season and the team will be looking to refocus on the league programme commencing at York City this coming Saturday.

If the players can show the form and persistence they displayed on Tuesday night and eliminate the defensive errors we can be confident of a good result from our long trip to Yorkshire.

Don't miss derby tickets

The next home game is now against our local rivals Exeter City.

As you would expect tickets are already selling well for this game and I would encourage anyone who hasn't yet purchased to do so as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. I would also advise early arrival for the game to minimise the queues that might arise close to kick off time.

Green Army fans that do not already have a season ticket and want to support the team at all the home games after Christmas can pick up a bargain by purchasing a half season ticket. Seasonal gifts are also available in the superstore.
