A HOLIDAYMAKER who travelled to the city all the way from Australia fears he could be scarred for life after a night out in Plymouth ended in disaster.
Rhys Shepherd, who lives in Australia, suffered serious facial injuries in an alleged attack at a Union Street pub.
The 27-year-old told The Herald of the terrifying moment a pint glass struck his face during an evening out with pals.
Police are now appealing for witnesses after being called to reports of an alleged unprovoked assault.
Rhys said he was standing with his friends when he was suddenly struck by the glass.
The incident occurred at 12.30am on Saturday, August 29 in JD Wetherspoon pub The Union Rooms.
Rhys was taken to hospital and had to have stitches in his forehead and nose.
Rhys is originally from Wales but lives in Australia.
He was back in the UK for two weeks, so he and his mates decided to come down to Plymouth for a short holiday.
He said: "I was on the second floor by the dance floor and was chatting away with my mates.
"All of a sudden there was a pint glass in my face. It came out of nowhere.
"After that, I couldn't see anything and was pouring with blood.
"I was really shocked. My mate put a towel over me and then I was taken into another room until the ambulance came.
"My top was covered in blood and my Converse [shoes] went from white to red."
Rhys added: "It really hurt and I was worried my face would be badly scarred.
"I still don't know how the cuts are going to heal."
Any witnesses who were close to the dance room area and may have seen the alleged incident or have any information are urged to contact 101 and quote crime reference CR060635/15.
