A MAN has been arrested in connection with a knifepoint robbery at a Cornish tourist attraction. Police were called at about 4pm on Sunday to a report of a robbery at Launceston Steam Railway. A man holding a knife and wearing a scarf across his face entered the gift shop and repeatedly demanded cash from the till. The elderly female shop assistant refused so he opened the till himself, removed about £400 in cash and ran off towards Newport Industrial Estate. The female assistant was not injured but was left shaken by the incident. Local and firearms officers, plus a dog handler, conducted an extensive area search for the suspect. A female officer attempted to detain a man near to the industrial estate but was assaulted and he fled the scene. She was taken to Derriford Hospital with head and leg injuries and has since been released. A 41-year-old man was later arrested at an address in Launceston in the early hours of Monday on suspicion of robbery and assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Police said he remains in custody at Launceston police station.
