A prisoner from HMP Dartmoor has appeared in court charged with murder after a fellow inmate was stabbed.
William Tolcher, 50, apeared in court accused of stabbing Alexander Cusworth, 37, from Teignmouth, on Thursday.
Tolcher did not enter a plea.
He will appear at Plymouth Crown Court on Wednesday.
Cusworth, who was stabbed with a carving knife in the kitchen, had been at HMP Dartmoor in Princetown since May and was serving eight years.
He was pronounced dead at Derriford Hospital.
Cusworth was jailed for attacking his landlord with a broomstick.
The victim spent eight days in a coma.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Justice said: "A police investigation is ongoing so it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."
