ONE of the men charged with the murder of Plymouth man Tanis Bhandari on New Year's Day has pleaded guilty to all the charges against him on the fourth day of his trial. Ryan Williams and Donald Pemberton were jointly charged with the murder of the 27-year-old builder, along with three counts of causing grievous bodily harm and one count of actual bodily harm. Following legal discussion the defence barrister for Williams – Paul Dunkells QC – asked for the indictment to be read to his client once more. Williams, 22, of Haydon Grove, St Budeaux, stood in the dock with a tissue in his hand and in a soft voice replied "guilty" to each of the five charges put to him by the court clerk. During the short exchange members of the public gallery could be heard crying throughout his guilty please. Justice Nigel Teare asked for the forewoman of the jury to rise and asked her to formally return a guilty verdict on each charge. Don Pemberton, 21, of Victoria Road, St Budeaux, denies all charges. The wounding with intent charges relate to Jamie Healy, Sean Cordon and George Walker. The actual bodily harm charge relates to Matthew Dawe. A post mortem carried out by Home Office pathologist, Dr Amanda Jeffery, concluded that the cause of Mr Bhandari's death was a "stab wound to the back of the chest". Mr Cordon suffered a stab wound to his back, close to his spine. Mr Healy had a 6cm deep wound to his back which "stripped his back muscle" from bone, lacerated his spleen, cut his pancreas and "divided his left kidney". The court heard from prosecutor Simon Laws QC that Mr Healy was "lucky to survive" as surgeons had to remove his spleen and kidney. Williams and Pemberton were arrested a short while after the incident on the green at Tamerton Foliot.
