A Plymouth shop manager has offered to resign after a rare bicyle which was shackled to a wooden block and a sink was stolen from a shop window on Plymouth's busiest city centre road.
The Pashley bike, which has no seat, brakes or chain, was part of a display in the window of Bathroom Village in Exeter Street.
Somehow the bike, which was attached to a large wooden block and a basin, was stolen from the shop at the end of Saturday, October 31.
The manager of the shop, which opened in July, was so upset by the theft he has offered to resign.
The bike retails at over £1,500 and was detached from a heavy oak shelf and basin, all in the shop window, before being removed.
Shop spokesman Tansy Maggs said: "The staff had been really proud to be working in our newest showroom with eye catching displays, a branch that had started to turn over a decent trade despite being so new to the town.
"They were absolutely gutted that Saturday afternoon, indeed the manager quickly offered his resignation feeling personally to blame for the incident.
"Bathroom Village employees just shy of 30 people across the west country and everyone has been saddened by this.
"The Plymouth showroom staff struggle to put this incident behind them, but they do have resolve.
"We're delighted to report that Simon, an experienced retail manager having relocated to Plymouth from Bristol specifically to manage this showroom, has agreed to stay in post with full support from the management team.
"And if we can replace the bike we will do, so watch this space."
